本来であれば、たいがいスケートする日曜日であるが、
一昨日は雨が降っていたのと、
あまりにも寒かったので、ほとんど一日家から出なかった。
なので昨日は仕事の帰りに、
川口駅から自宅までのおよそ二駅区間を歩いて帰ることにした。

まあ歩いて帰るといっても
ウォーキングなどというたいそうなものではなく、
ただ適当にブラブラとしかったのである。

まず行ったのが、セール期間中である川口の某中古レコード店。
自分は常に中古判店のセール期間を気にしているような
レコードマニアではないのだが、
前回のブログで登場した下北沢の中古判店の同系列店が川口にあり、
そのセールのチラシが店の袋に入っていたので行ってみたのである。
目当てのものは無かったのだが、
ロッド・スチュワートのベストが
新古品で1000円以下で売っていたのでゲット。

そのまま西川口まで歩いていった。
西川口に行った目的は最近駅前にオープンした
某古本最大チェーン店をチェックするためである。
この某古本チェーンは、過去の経験からオープン時に
自分的な掘り出し物（つまり世間一般でいうゴミ）を発見することが多いので
チェックしようと思っていたのだ。

すると・・・ありました！！

古今東西の珍事件、珍しい風習、オカルトやサイエンス記事等を寄せ集めた、
百科事典的な本『世界不思議物語』。
実はこの本小学校の時に図書室にあり、
図書室の自習の際には毎回、もちろん貸し出しでも読みまくり、
しまいには卒業の際にパクって来た（もう時効は成立している）
ぐらい気に入った本だったのだ。
確か自分が30歳になるくらいまでは
ボロボロになりながらも大事に持っていたのだが、
引っ越しの際に紛失したか、
誰かに強引に貸した（こんな本を借りたがる奴もいないだろう）かで、
手元には無くなっていたのである。

この本が出版されたのは1979年で、発売当時の値段が4950円。
百科事典だけに決して安くはない。それが古本で1250円で売っていた。
恐らく他の人に取ってはゴミであるが、
自分的にはこのコンディションだったら定価で買ってもホクホクである。
この本の良い所は記事の面白さ
（30年近く前の事なので、古い学説が書かれている記事もあるが）
も去る事ながら挿絵が良いのである。

改めて見て思ったのだが、絵のタッチがやはり大好きな
USAのインディーレーベルSSTレコードのジャケを描いていた
レイモンド・ペティボンに似てなくもない。
こうやって繋がってたのか！！！？
